Matt's First

hi, this is matt,

sorry we didn't post the past few days. we didn't have any service at the azure's or the camp.

on Saturday we rode in the car for a long time. we ended up making an extra stop at Cabela's. the girls weren't too happy.

we arrived at the Azure's at around 10:30 and we had a fire with smores and mountain pies. we found a mouse in the basement and the girls freaked out. yesterday we got at the camp, unpacked, the boys swam for 15 minutes. then we went to church. after that, we went to the beach.
today we canvased and painted. we passed out almost 300 brochures.
bye.

wow i must say this has been a very very interesting trip so far.
I didnt know they could be so much fun!
were all getting along and working very hard, and i must say that i never ate so much junk food in my life! ( thanks to all those who donated it to us ;)
And thank all of you who have kept us in your prayers, vacation bible school is starting tomorrow so just pray that all of us will be able to stay awake!
yesterday was an interesting night, and we didnt eat dinner till 12 pm.
well.. JR is spread out laying in the middle of the church floor right now, and all the kids are playing dodge ball next door and it sounds like the church is going to be knocked down to the foundation. it is absolute chaos! and you should see the people's faces whenever we walk into a fast food restraunt. Were the biggest herd you'd ever see.
anyways keep us in your prayers!

mucho amor,

As I sit here (finally) before the laptop, I have no idea what to write. I'm sure I could tell you a funny story and relate it to the work we've been doing, but I'm pretty sure Samantha does it better than I can. :) In all seriousness, we have had a great trip so far. Sure, we've spent two of the past three days in a van, but I speak from experience when I say that it's a great success when twenty-two people can travel over ten hours without any major mishaps, eh?
Bible school hasn't begun yet, but already God has been teaching me new things. Sometimes when I stupidly think too highly of myself, I believe that I had seen it all in my first year at Bible college. However, coming back home and traveling with a group of students made up of many who are younger than I am has shown me that I haven't learned nothin' yet!
I'll digress for a moment and give "mad props" to the St. Vincent group. It is really quite difficult to write a blog for the whole world to see. My little sister's footsteps are hard to follow, especially when she wrote blog entries like she did! I guess I could go into detail about what I'm learning, but most of the lessons are still works in progress.
We do have a great group of students. Its been wonderful getting to know each of them better. Oh, I have to end this I suppose, because Dairy Queen is calling!
Love you all, and thank you for your prayers.

P.S. Pastor Jeff, Brett is now calling me Nicoleon Dynamite. And Pastor Dave, have a ball at staff training. It's livin' man! Praying for our staff as they try to master the Heimlich...

Hey everyone!

These past few days have been both great and believe it or not, very tiring! Yes, riding in the van with 12 other people and non-stop talking and laughing can be a very bad place to try to take a nap. Unfortunatly, we some how ended up at a gas station in Dundee right across the street from Cabelas and of course we just had to go and spend 30 min. in there. :( On Saturday night, we got the amazing privilege of spending the night at the Azure's house. They were sooo
nice! On Sunday we finally got to our destination point, unpacked and started to get ready for church. We girls had a major set back though. We were all doing GREAT until we blew the power in our cabin from hair straighteners and blow driers, but we made it on time. At church we all sang a couple of songs and then my dad (Mr. Cumberland) did a GREAT sermon. And yes, we did get to see Birch:) When we were all done with church, we went to Lake Superior. We all had a great time swimming and playing beach volley-ball until dark which was not until 10:30! We finally got back to the camp, ate supper at midnight and went to bed with the power still out in the girls cabin. Today we all came into the church and were asined jobs. Some of the girls painted a very interesting room with very bright colors! That was fun! Everyone else went canvasing. Later on we will do some work around the camp and then go swimming! Thank you sooo much for all of your prayers & please keep praying.

BRRR it was freezing cold. then we played beach volleyball until dark which was 10:30. then today some girls painted the churches youth room which had very odd colors and the boys went canvasing. and i must say we all did a fabulous job later today we will be doing some yard work around the camp and we will be swimming in boot lake. and tomorrow we get to start vbs. thank you so much for praying for us.

WELL HELLO THERE!!!
This is how this trip has gone so far..
Well, after a wait at the church for a few short minutes (waiting for the Cumberlands, how ironic heehee) we all piled into the church van and Suburban for our long ride to the Azure's house in Alanson, MI. On the way there, we had many pee stops, played MASH (Matt Cumberland and I are getting hitched), and most of us in the van had some wonderful reading time! (Taste the rainbow). We got to the Azure's house pretty late, you know, after the "half hour" delay at Cabelo's that set us back a bit. After we dropped our stuff in the house, we lazily shuffled out to the fire while we made smores, mountain pies, and sang a few songs. Then there was a "wraslin" match between some of the boys... sorry mom, there are a few grass stains! After settling in later that night, we all pretty much fell asleep pretty fast.
The next morning, we all said goodbye and thanks to the Azures and made our way to our cabins in the UP. We had some more pee stops and then we FINALLY found civilization and a place to eat (Hardees). After we ate and a few more hours driving, we made it to the cabins. Later that night, we had the most amazing night at Lake Superior. Swimming in warm river water, and then the lake water was ICE COLD. Then we played volleyball for a few hours. It really was a blast!!!!!!!!!!! We played like 4 games. The sun was setting and it was gorgeous. Hope we can go back.
Today me and a bunch of the girls painted a HORRIBLY color-coordinated youth room. It's better now, and we're all covered in paint.

I miss you mom and dad, but most importantly, I MISS YOU FOOFIE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!! See you all when I get back!!!!

Hey mum whatsup!!! We just painted a whole basement!!! it was a disaster before!!! there were all kinds of ugly colors all over the place! we definately fixed it up!!! it's only the second day and we have done so much stuff already!!! so much for lights out at 10... we've been going to bed at like 12!!! the first night that we got to the cabin we ran too many hair dryers and straighteners and we blew a fuse and we didnt get the electricity back until like 9 the next morning!!! well that's all so far keep in touch love you all!!!!! ttyl (talk to you later)

WHOOPS!

Pastor Jeff,

We are not quite sure how this picture at Cabela's got here! But could you please increase your credit limit?? LOL!! JR's new Ranger Boat is REALLY FAST!! LOL Even Louder!

Hello from Jeff & Susan

Greetings from the Sunny Upper Peninsula of Michigan!

We arrived safe and sound at the home of Mike and Donna Azure on Saturday Evening for a bit of rest prior to continuing our journey to the "U.P." of Michigan, where we arrived safely on Sunday Afternoon. Our kids did a wonderful job of sharing the gospel through song and praise. I gave my best shot at delivering the evening service and actually survived the experience!

God is already doing great things through the kids (and hopefully the adults as well!). Sunday night we had a great time of bonding after the church service on the beautiful shore of Lake Superior. We had a great time swimming (a few in the icey cold waters of the Gitchigumee) and the rest of us in the much warmer river leading into Superior. After that, we all tested our skills at volleyball. We decided to play until dark, which may have been a mistake! When we left the court at 10:30pm, it was still light! Wow! I'm glad we weren't in Alaska!!

While playing volleyball, God allowed us to view one of his glorious sunsets on the beach. He is truly an awesome God. The beauty of His handiworks is EVERYWHERE!! We did not have to be in St Vincent to see the beauty of His creation! But I'm sure the water would have been much warmer!

Dinner at midnight was hopefully a one-time occurrence for us! Along with the girl's cabin having tripped the breaker which was inside the home of the sleeping "innkeepers". But God used this experience to help build stronger unity and teamwork within our group. And God does provide for our needs and goes well beyond! This morning when JR and I went down to get the electric taken care of, our gracious hosts offered to provide an additional cabin for the girls to use, free of charge! God is good!

We started our mission today with half of the group tackling a painting project in the Youth Center of Munising Baptist Church while the other half went out on a canvassing mission to pass out brochures introducing the church to the local neighborhood. After lunch, they were back out doing more of the same!

This evening, we will be doing some maintenance work for our hosts at the campground and then relaxing in Boot Lake prior to an early lights out!

As this blog-spot is still in the construction phase by a group of apprentices, we cannot promise the latest in techno dazzling, but we will give it a shot if you will be patient with us!

Aside from patience, we definitely covet your prayers this week. Most of us are new to Mission Trips and the field that God has allowed us to serve in. Please pray for team cohesion and a servant's heart for each of us. Pray that God will go before us as we present His Word to the children of Au Train, Michigan. Also pray that God will send leaders to us that will continue to reach out to the children in the area after we leave. The fields are white for harvest, even in our own country in which we live.

Our prayer is that we ALL come to the field to join in the harvest, whether back home in Butler, in the U.P. of Michigan, or wherever the Lord leads us!
