Greetings from the Sunny Upper Peninsula of Michigan!
We arrived safe and sound at the home of Mike and Donna Azure on Saturday Evening for a bit of rest prior to continuing our journey to the "U.P." of Michigan, where we arrived safely on Sunday Afternoon. Our kids did a wonderful job of sharing the gospel through song and praise. I gave my best shot at delivering the evening service and actually survived the experience!
God is already doing great things through the kids (and hopefully the adults as well!). Sunday night we had a great time of bonding after the church service on the beautiful shore of Lake Superior. We had a great time swimming (a few in the icey cold waters of the Gitchigumee) and the rest of us in the much warmer river leading into Superior. After that, we all tested our skills at volleyball. We decided to play until dark, which may have been a mistake! When we left the court at 10:30pm, it was still light! Wow! I'm glad we weren't in Alaska!!
While playing volleyball, God allowed us to view one of his glorious sunsets on the beach. He is truly an awesome God. The beauty of His handiworks is EVERYWHERE!! We did not have to be in St Vincent to see the beauty of His creation! But I'm sure the water would have been much warmer!
Dinner at midnight was hopefully a one-time occurrence for us! Along with the girl's cabin having tripped the breaker which was inside the home of the sleeping "innkeepers". But God used this experience to help build stronger unity and teamwork within our group. And God does provide for our needs and goes well beyond! This morning when JR and I went down to get the electric taken care of, our gracious hosts offered to provide an additional cabin for the girls to use, free of charge! God is good!
We started our mission today with half of the group tackling a painting project in the Youth Center of Munising Baptist Church while the other half went out on a canvassing mission to pass out brochures introducing the church to the local neighborhood. After lunch, they were back out doing more of the same!
This evening, we will be doing some maintenance work for our hosts at the campground and then relaxing in Boot Lake prior to an early lights out!
As this blog-spot is still in the construction phase by a group of apprentices, we cannot promise the latest in techno dazzling, but we will give it a shot if you will be patient with us!
Aside from patience, we definitely covet your prayers this week. Most of us are new to Mission Trips and the field that God has allowed us to serve in. Please pray for team cohesion and a servant's heart for each of us. Pray that God will go before us as we present His Word to the children of Au Train, Michigan. Also pray that God will send leaders to us that will continue to reach out to the children in the area after we leave. The fields are white for harvest, even in our own country in which we live.
Our prayer is that we ALL come to the field to join in the harvest, whether back home in Butler, in the U.P. of Michigan, or wherever the Lord leads us!
